Aïssa MAÏGA

ECI TALENT is Aïssa Maïga’s agent in Africa and Asia.

Aïssa Maïga is a French actress, author, and director of Senegalese and Malian descent.

She has worked with renowned directors such as Michael Haneke, Abderrahmane Sissako, and Michel Gondry, and starred in The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by Chiwetel Ejiofor (2019). Her acclaimed performance in Sissako’s Bamako (2006) earned her a nomination for the César Award for Most Promising Actress in 2007, and she won the Globe de Cristal Award for Best Actress for Prêt à tout.

Aïssa Maïga has built a demanding career, moving between art-house cinema and international productions, marked by a sensitive acting style, a strong screen presence, and a wide range of roles.

In parallel with her acting work, she is actively engaged in issues of representation and inclusion in cinema. In 2018, she initiated the collective book Noire n’est pas mon métier (Being Black Is Not My Job), bringing together fifteen other Black actresses to denounce stereotypes and discrimination in the industry.

She has also directed two films:

  • Marcher sur l’eau (Above Water, Bonne Pioche, 2021), shot in Niger, which addresses the climate crisis through the daily life of a local community.

  • Regard Noir (2021), co-directed with Isabelle Simeoni, a traveling documentary from Paris to Los Angeles via São Paulo, exploring systemic racism in film and television across different cultures.
