Since 2020, Éric Emeraux has been an expert in counterterrorism, organized crime, and international crimes, working in France and abroad with European organizations and the United Nations.
His first book, La traque est mon métier (Hunting Monsters), published by Plon in 2020 and translated into English in 2023, has enjoyed widespread success both in France and internationally. An Arabic version is currently in preparation. His debut novel, the thriller Quand l’abîme te regarde (When the Abyss Stares at You), published by Récamier in 2024, has also been met with great enthusiasm from readers.
Éric Emeraux is currently working on a television series adaptation, fueled by interest from several producers, as well as on a new novel, already commissioned by his publisher.
From 2017 to 2020, he served as the head of the Central Office for Combating Crimes Against Humanity, Genocide, and War Crimes (OCLCH), an interministerial unit specializing in investigations of the most serious international crimes and hate-motivated offenses.
A Colonel in the French National Gendarmerie, Éric Emeraux is a graduate of the National Gendarmerie Officers School (EOGN) and holds a Master’s degree in Crime Prevention from Aix-Marseille University.
After an initial career in the Army within mountain commando groups, he joined the National Gendarmerie, where he held various command positions. Notably, he served as Commander of a Research Unit (2004–2009) and as Judicial Police Advisor to the General commanding the Rhône-Alpes Gendarmerie region (2009–2012).
Between 2012 and 2017, he was the Interior Security Attaché at the French Embassy in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), where he oversaw police cooperation and mutual legal assistance in organized crime cases.
