JEAN LUC HERBULOT commence par réaliser des clips musicaux pour des artistes indépendants, avec des standards créatifs élevés pour des productions à petit budget.

Il réalise son premier court-métrage Vièrges(s) en 2004. Puis en 2009, il réalise le court-métrage Concurrence loyale avec Thierry Frémont et Sagamore Stévenin, mêlant suspense, action et humour noir. Le film est acheté par Canal+, Orange et distribué en Italie, en Espagne, en Russie et en Afrique du Nord.

En 2014, JEAN LUC HERBULOT écrit et réalise le long-métrage Dealer, dont la première a lieu au Fantasia International Film Festival à Montréal et ouvre L'Étrange Festival à Paris. C’est l’un des premiers films français achetés par Netflix.
